MRI Technician Salary Information:

The average MRI technician salary in the United States is just under $63,000 annually. When starting out you can expect to make around $55,730 a year. Depending on your experience level you can earn over $66,910 per year. This salary is way above the average technician salary at a hospital. As with everything, it's all about experience and the right references. It is also possible that these salary numbers will increase as the demand for MRI technicians will be greater in the future as the medical field as a whole continues to expand.

MRI Technician Education Requirements:

To become an MRI Technician, you will need certification in a two year program from an accredited school or college. You can also go a step further and get a full four year bachelor degree in radiography. However, you must make sure that your school is accredited by JRCERT, or Joint Review Committee on Education of Radiologic Technology. Without this accreditation, it will be near impossible to obtain employment. Once you have completed your certification, you will be required to sit for a board exam.

MRI Technician Work Environment:

As an MRI technician, you will most likely end up working in a hospital or research clinic. MRI's are very expensive machines so most of the small clinics do not have them. The work itself, is not stressful but you will most likely end up working long hours. The good news is that there is a constant need for good MRI technicians so will have no problem finding employment.
